BusinessEurope has proposed seven urgent actions for EU policymakers to address the energy cost gap and enhance industrial competitiveness in Europe. The recent energy crisis highlighted vulnerabilities in the European energy supply, resulting in increased energy costs for businesses. In response, BusinessEurope calls for massive deployment of renewable and low-carbon energy sources, emphasizing the need to secure the hydrogen value chain for a decarbonized economy by 2050. The association stresses the importance of technology neutrality and private investments to bridge the gap and ensure a sufficient supply of energy sources and infrastructure. Efforts also include speeding up permitting procedures, monitoring the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, and promoting industrial decarbonization through demand-side measures. By addressing the energy competitiveness gap and implementing sustainability criteria, the proposals aim to lower energy costs, increase energy security, and promote a cost-effective transition to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
