Essar Energy Transition (EET) and SSE have joined forces to establish a pioneering 40 MW green hydrogen production facility, Gowy Green Hydrogen, in North West England. The project aims to provide hydrogen to industrial consumers in the region, assisting them in reducing their carbon footprint. The facility, set to commence operations by 2028, has completed initial feasibility studies and is progressing with design and site investigations. EET's CEO, Joe Seifert, expressed enthusiasm for this venture, highlighting its significance in the company's low-carbon hydrogen portfolio. Hannah Bronwin, SSE Thermal's Director of Business Development, emphasized the crucial role of scaling up green hydrogen production in decarbonizing challenging industries and addressing the clean energy landscape. SSE's holistic approach to hydrogen includes initiatives spanning production, storage, and power generation. The UK's dedicated focus on deploying low-carbon hydrogen, with a specific target of achieving 10GW capacity by 2030, aligns with the collaborative efforts of EET and SSE. This partnership underscores their dedication to fostering sustainable energy practices and driving economic growth through job creation. By actively engaging in green hydrogen projects, SSE is actively contributing to the transition towards a greener, more sustainable energy ecosystem.
