Gangwon Province Governor Kim Jin-tae unveiled a strategic plan for the development of Yeongdong and southern regions during a press conference at the 2nd Government Complex in Gangneung. The province's focus lies on fostering eco-friendly future industries such as hydrogen, new materials, and marine leisure to drive regional growth. Gangwon Province aims to build on its success in attracting the nation's first hydrogen specialization complex by initiating the development of hydrogen storage transport clusters and a liquefied hydrogen reliability evaluation center. The province also plans to cultivate the new material industry around Gangneung and invest in projects like a clean methanol production base and a heavy particle accelerator-based medical cluster to repurpose abandoned mines. Furthermore, efforts to promote marine leisure, cruise tourism, and cable car projects are in progress to enhance the region's allure as a global tourist destination. The province is also working on developing the K-salmon industry, reviving fishing villages, and improving port logistics in several coastal areas. With a positive outlook on hydrogen and other eco-friendly initiatives, Gangwon Province is poised to drive sustainable growth and transformation in Yeongdong and southern regions.
