Igrene, in partnership with SEID, has applied for an environmental permit from the Dalarna County Administrative Board to construct and operate a demonstration plant in Mora for extracting hydrogen and carbon. The project involves the Coldspark technology, which utilizes cold pyrolysis of methane to obtain hydrogen and carbon in a carbon-free process. The next phase includes building and running the demonstration plant in Mora, with plans to utilize biogenic methane sourced from the Siljan Ring as the primary feedstock. Igrene and SEID previously sought financial support from the European Commission for advancing their Coldspark technology. The recent positive response from the European Commission on the funding application indicates optimism for the project's progression. If the environmental permit is granted, this initiative could mark a significant milestone in sustainable energy production and carbon extraction in the region.
