INPEX Corporation has initiated front end engineering and design work preparations for a blue hydrogen production project in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. The project involves constructing a hydrogen production plant with an annual capacity of around 100,000 tons sourced from natural gas fields and LNG. The produced hydrogen will be marketed as fuel and raw material for various applications in Niigata Prefecture. Additionally, the CO2 generated during production will be captured and injected into depleting gas fields as part of a CCS initiative. This project not only enhances national energy security but also supplies low-carbon energy through the large-scale production of blue hydrogen. INPEX's focus on expanding into low-carbon energy fields like hydrogen and CCS demonstrates their commitment to clean energy. By commercializing multiple projects in these areas by 2030, they aim to produce and supply significant amounts of hydrogen and ammonia while targeting a substantial annual CO2 injection volume. INPEX's efforts align with their overall strategy to provide clean and diverse energy sources while contributing to the development of Niigata Prefecture as a clean energy hub.
