SABIC Agri-Nutrients Company (SABIC AN), primarily owned by SABIC, has been granted approval by the Saudi Energy Ministry for feedstock allocation to establish a new facility in Jubail Industrial City. The upcoming plant aims to manufacture 1.2 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTA) of low-carbon blue ammonia and 1.1 MMTA of urea and specialized agri-nutrients, as stated in a disclosure to the Saudi stock exchange. Specific details regarding the costs and construction schedules for the facility have not been disclosed yet. SABIC AN plans to conduct engineering studies to assess various technologies and determine the best methods for energy and feedstock usage. The company has previously shipped low-carbon ammonia to India in May 2023. Furthermore, Saudi Aramco and SABIC Agri-Nutrients were awarded the world's initial independent certifications recognizing 'blue' hydrogen and ammonia production in August 2022. This strategic move signifies a step towards sustainable and eco-friendly production practices within the region.
