Shell Selects KBR's Blue Ammonia Technology for Low-Carbon Hydrogen Project in Oman
Key Ideas
  • KBR's blue ammonia technology chosen by Shell for low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia project in Duqm, Oman.
  • KBR to provide licensed engineering design for a 3,000 metric tons per day ammonia plant using hydrogen from Shell's Blue Hydrogen technology.
  • KBR also awarded an advisory consulting contract by Kuwait Oil Company for a renewables and green hydrogen masterplan, aiming for 17GW of renewables and 25GW of green hydrogen by 2050.
  • The project in Oman and the contract in Kuwait align with energy transition goals and contribute to reducing carbon intensity.
KBR's blue ammonia technology has been selected by Shell for the Blue Horizons low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia project in Duqm, Oman. The project aims to deliver cost-competitive and low-carbon intensity ammonia utilizing KBR's leading ammonia synthesis loop technology. KBR will provide licensed engineering design for a 3,000 metric tons per day ammonia plant that will use hydrogen produced by Shell's Blue Hydrogen technology. This collaboration is seen as a significant step towards achieving Oman's Vision 2040 targets. Additionally, KBR has secured an advisory consulting contract from Kuwait Oil Company to develop a masterplan for the production of 17GW of renewables and 25GW of green hydrogen by 2050. The plan involves a phased strategy incorporating wind and solar power with power storage capability, linking renewable energy to green hydrogen production for industrial use and export. These initiatives showcase a positive momentum towards energy transition and sustainability goals in the region.
