TA'ZIZ Chemicals Hub Awards $2bn EPC Contracts for Hydrogen-Based Ammonia Export Facility
Key Ideas
- TA'ZIZ in the UAE has awarded over $2bn in EPC contracts for a blue hydrogen-based ammonia export facility, aiding in the development of key infrastructure.
- NMDC Group secured the EPC contract for the chemicals port, facilitating the export of low-carbon fuels from Al Ruwais Industrial City.
- The project aims to produce 4.7 million tonnes per annum of chemicals by 2028, including innovative products like low-carbon ammonia and methanol.
- TA'ZIZ's CEO highlighted the importance of these contracts in establishing a global presence in low-carbon chemicals and transitioning fuels, contributing to the UAE's economy and value chains.
TA'ZIZ, based in the UAE, has recently announced awarding over $2 billion in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts to develop key site infrastructure, notably focusing on a blue hydrogen-based ammonia export facility. The NMDC Group has secured the EPC contract for the chemicals port, which will serve as a pivotal location for exporting low-carbon fuels from the Al Ruwais Industrial City. The project includes plans for a 1 million tonnes per annum ammonia production facility by Tecnimont, with a significant emphasis on reducing carbon intensity by 50% initially and incorporating carbon capture and sequestration in subsequent phases. Additionally, a partnership between Advario and Rotary Engineering-Abu Dhabi has been awarded the chemicals terminal contract, responsible for storage facilities, pipelines, and liquid product storage. By 2028, TA'ZIZ aims to produce 4.7 million tonnes per annum of chemicals, introducing new products like low-carbon ammonia and methanol. The CEO of TA'ZIZ, Mashal Saoud Al-Kindi, highlighted the significance of these infrastructure awards in establishing a robust chemicals ecosystem to meet the increasing global demand for low-carbon chemicals and transition fuels. This initiative not only aligns with ADNOC's chemicals growth strategy but also drives economic diversification in the UAE by creating new local value chains.
