Shell has chosen consulting and engineering firm Wood to provide pre-FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) services for Oman's Blue Horizons hydrogen and ammonia project. The initiative aims to produce low carbon blue hydrogen and ammonia for both local and international markets while also incorporating the capture and storage of CO2 from production processes. This development is anticipated to be the first large-scale project of its kind in Oman, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy practices. Wood will utilize its specialized knowledge in CO2 and blue hydrogen to create the design for the integrated production facility, marine infrastructure including ammonia storage, a 200 km pipeline, and a CO2 injection facility. Giuseppe Zuccaro, the President of Process & Chemicals at Wood, expressed enthusiasm about the innovative nature of the Blue Horizons project and its potential to drive Oman's adoption of zero-carbon fuels. The company plans to engage global teams from various locations, such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, India, and Oman, to fulfill this contract, scheduled for completion by 2025.
