Zurich Insurance Group and Aon have partnered to launch a new clean energy insurance facility in Zurich, Switzerland, with coverage extending to blue and green hydrogen projects as well as CCUS initiatives, with funding of up to $250 million. The facility aims to support the development and expansion of hydrogen-related projects globally. Sierra Signorelli, CEO of Commercial Insurance at Zurich, highlighted the significance of insurance in enabling the Net Zero transition by providing crucial protection and risk expertise. The facility, which has already garnered substantial interest, offers a comprehensive insurance solution for the complex risks associated with hydrogen projects, including coverage for CCUS technologies. This initiative reflects the growing recognition of clean hydrogen as a sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuels. Furthermore, Allianz Capital Partners recently invested in Fuella, a Norwegian project developer specializing in green hydrogen and green ammonia projects, indicating the increasing financial support for environmentally friendly energy solutions. The $250m insurance facility is seen as a significant step in facilitating the growth of the hydrogen sector and addressing the challenges faced by developers in securing adequate insurance coverage.
