ASL Aviation Holdings has made a significant move towards sustainable air cargo by entering a conditional purchase agreement with ZeroAvia for up to 20 hydrogen-electric engines. This deal aims to pave the way for the development of some of the world's first zero-emission freight aircraft on a large scale. The agreement, which builds upon a Memorandum of Understanding signed in November 2021, includes a firm order for 10 engines with an option for an additional 10, supported by a retrofit service agreement. The hydrogen-electric engines operate by converting hydrogen fuel into electricity through fuel cells, resulting in zero CO2 emissions and other harmful pollutants, with water vapor as the only byproduct. ZeroAvia has been successful in testing a prototype 600kW system for 10-20 seat aircraft and is progressing towards certification with regulatory bodies for their larger ZA2000 system. ASL's decision to explore hydrogen-electric technology aligns with their ESG principles, focusing on reducing CO2 emissions across their airline network. This initiative is part of ASL's efforts to promote innovative and sustainable practices in air cargo operations through ASL CargoVision. Leaders from ASL Aviation Holdings and ZeroAvia expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the commitment to a sustainable future in aviation.
