  • ZeroAvia seeks FAA certification for its electric motor and collaborates with the UK CAA for ZA600 hydrogen fuel cell powertrain certification.
  • Nolen to maintain his role at Archer Aviation while splitting time with ZeroAvia to drive decarbonization efforts in the aerospace industry.
  • The move signifies a significant step towards zero-emission flight initiatives and industry decarbonization with the expertise of Nolen.
Former Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) chief, Billy Nolen, has taken on an additional role as the senior strategy and regulatory advisor at ZeroAvia. ZeroAvia, a US-based company, aims to accelerate the certification process for its 600kW electric propulsion system and full hydrogen-electric powertrains with Nolen's expertise. The company is working towards obtaining FAA certification for its electric motor and is in collaboration with the UK Civil Aviation Authority for the certification of its ZA600 hydrogen fuel cell powertrain. Nolen, who previously served as the acting administrator at the FAA, will continue his role at Archer Aviation while also working with ZeroAvia. This move emphasizes a concerted effort to drive the decarbonization of the aerospace industry and promote zero-emission flight initiatives. The appointment of Nolen signals a positive step towards achieving sustainable aviation and advancing the use of hydrogen technology in the sector.
