Key Ideas
  • The workshop aimed to enhance cooperation between India and the United Kingdom in hydrogen standardization, with a focus on green hydrogen production and regulations.
  • Discussions emphasized the importance of safe, scalable, and globally harmonized regulations, codes, and standards for the hydrogen sector.
  • The event supports BIS’s efforts under the National Green Hydrogen Mission by identifying gaps in existing standards and engaging with technical experts to develop a sustainable green hydrogen economy.
  • Policymakers, technical experts, and industry leaders from both countries participated, highlighting their commitment to advancing innovation and sustainability in the green hydrogen sector.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in collaboration with the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the UK Government's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), organized a two-day India-UK Standards Partnership Workshop on Green Hydrogen in New Delhi. The workshop focused on improving collaboration in hydrogen standardization, particularly in green hydrogen production and regulations. The initiative is part of the UK Government’s Standards Partnership Programme, which aims to leverage international standards to drive growth, attract investment, and boost trade in India. Discussions at the workshop stressed the need for safe, scalable, and globally harmonized regulations and standards, as well as the adoption of fast-track Publicly Available Specification (PAS) standards and global hydrogen certification. Abbey Dorian, Energy Sector Lead at BSI, highlighted the significance of the workshop in promoting international cooperation towards clean energy transitions and building a sustainable hydrogen market. The event aligns with BIS’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, focusing on enhancing India’s certification, testing, and standardization frameworks through global best practices. The workshop, inaugurated by officials from BIS and the British High Commission, witnessed active participation from policymakers, technical experts, and industry leaders from both India and the UK. Their active involvement underscores a joint commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in the green hydrogen sector.
