JCB has achieved a significant breakthrough with its development of the world's first hydrogen combustion engine, receiving approval for commercial use in Europe. The company's $121 million engine, developed by a team of 150 engineers over three years, has been granted certification by 11 licensing authorities in Europe, with more countries expected to follow suit in 2025. This achievement positions JCB as the first construction equipment company to implement a fully operational combustion engine powered by hydrogen. Real-world testing of the hydrogen equipment, which includes backhoe loaders, telescopic handlers, and generator sets, is currently underway on customers' sites.
