Advancing Renewable Energy Cross-border Projects in Europe: Driving Sustainable Energy Solutions
Key Ideas
  • Three new projects join the List of Renewable Energy Cross-border Projects under CEF Energy, focusing on green hydrogen, offshore wind farms, and hydropower.
  • These projects aim to accelerate renewable energy deployment, enhance regional collaboration, and contribute to EU's sustainable energy objectives.
  • The projects will increase renewable electricity production, support an open electricity market, reduce fossil fuel consumption, and advance the European Green Deal.
  • Financial support, higher visibility, and increased investor certainty are provided to the projects under the CEF Energy Programme.
The European Commission has added three new projects to the List of Renewable Energy Cross-border Projects (CB RES list) under the Connecting Europe Facility for Energy (CEF Energy). The projects aim to drive sustainable energy solutions and include initiatives like PONTIS, BEI, and TMNHSA. PONTIS focuses on building an integrated, cross-border renewable hydrogen supply chain in Europe. BEI aims at offshore wind farms and interconnectors for electricity trading between Denmark and Germany. TMNHSA is a cross-border initiative between Romania and Bulgaria, utilizing the hydropower potential of the Danube River. These projects will fill the gap in regional renewable electricity production, promote an open electricity market, increase energy independence, and reduce fossil fuel consumption. The projects on the CB RES list include ELWIND, GOERLITZ-ZGORZELEC, CICERONE, SLOWP, and ULP-RES WP, which contribute to renewable energy production and cross-border cooperation. The projects receive financial support under the CEF Energy Programme, ensuring their development and success. The advancement of these projects aligns with the EU's renewable energy objectives and the European Green Deal, driving towards a more sustainable and decarbonized energy sector. By promoting cross-border cooperation and renewable energy integration, these projects play a crucial role in achieving long-term decarbonization strategies in the EU.
