Algeria, in collaboration with the European Union (EU) and Germany, has launched the Taqathy+ programme to advance renewable energy, green hydrogen, and energy efficiency. This strategic initiative aims to position Algeria as a regional energy powerhouse and enhance its role in the global energy transition. With €28 million in joint funding, including a significant contribution from Germany, Taqathy+ replaces the previous programme launched in 2022 and is scheduled to run until 2029. The programme focuses on integrating renewable energy sources, developing the green hydrogen value chain, and improving energy efficiency across key sectors. Algeria's Secretary of State for Renewable Energy emphasized the urgency of investing in clean energy amidst economic and environmental challenges. The initiative is aligned with Algeria's target to generate 15,000 MW of electricity from renewable sources by 2035, showcasing the country's commitment to a low-carbon, technology-driven future.
