In a significant collaboration, Sonatrach and Cepsa have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the development of a green hydrogen project in Algeria, aimed at supplying the European market. The signing ceremony, attended by key government officials and company executives, outlined plans for a two-phase project. The first phase involves feasibility studies to assess opportunities and profitability, while the second focuses on project development. The integrated project includes the construction of a hydrogen production plant powered by electrolysis, solar, and wind energy sources, along with facilities for methanol and green ammonia production, storage, and transportation. This initiative aligns with the decarbonization objectives of both companies. Cepsa, known for its presence across the hydrocarbon value chain and renewable energy sectors, brings its expertise to this venture.
