Algeria-Europe Green Hydrogen Partnership to Power Energy Transition
Key Ideas
- SONATRACH, SONELGAZ, VNG, Snam, SEACORRIDOR, and VERBUND GREEN HYDROGEN signed a MoU for a green hydrogen project in Algeria.
- The project will focus on supplying the European market through the SoutH2 Corridor, reducing fossil fuel dependence.
- Parties will collaborate on studies to evaluate the profitability and feasibility of establishing a green hydrogen production system.
- Successful implementation could meet Europe's green energy needs and enhance Algeria's position as an energy supplier.
In Baku, Azerbaijan, Algerian companies SONATRACH and SONELGAZ, in partnership with firms from Germany, Italy, and Austria, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore the development of a green hydrogen production project in Algeria. This initiative, supported by VNG, Snam, SEACORRIDOR, and VERBUND GREEN HYDROGEN, aims to investigate the feasibility of supplying the European market with green hydrogen via the SoutH2 Corridor. By collaborating on various studies, the involved parties seek to evaluate the potential profitability and viability of establishing a comprehensive green hydrogen production system. The project's ultimate goal is to contribute to Europe's energy transition by promoting a low-carbon, sustainable energy economy and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. If successful, this partnership could not only help to meet the green energy demands of Europe but also strengthen Algeria's position as a significant energy supplier to the continent.
