AM Green Initiates Mega Green Ammonia Project in India
Key Ideas
- AM Green partners with John Cockerill Hydrogen for a 1.3 GW electrolyser order to develop a 1 Mt/year green ammonia project in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.
- The project aligns with India's National Green Hydrogen Mission, with ambitions to produce 5 Mt/year of green hydrogen by 2030 and become a hydrogen export hub.
- The investment includes the establishment of India's largest electrolyser manufacturing plant in Kakinada, indicating significant progress towards green energy production.
- Production of green ammonia is expected to begin in the second half of 2026, marking a substantial step towards sustainable energy development in India.
AM Green, a renewable energy company, has initiated a major green ammonia project in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, India. The company has placed a substantial 1.3 GW electrolyser order with John Cockerill Hydrogen to facilitate the development of a 1 Mt/year green ammonia project. This project involves the use of advanced pressurized alkaline electrolysers to produce green hydrogen, which will then be converted into green ammonia. Production is set to commence in the latter half of 2026, with an initial 640 MW phase followed by another 640 MW phase. This endeavor is in line with India's National Green Hydrogen Mission, which was unveiled in 2022 with the goal of producing 5 Mt/year of green hydrogen by 2030 and establishing the country as a key hydrogen export hub. In addition to the green ammonia project, the partnership between John Cockerill and AM Green also includes the development of India's largest electrolyser manufacturing plant in Kakinada, emphasizing the country's commitment to sustainable energy initiatives. The National Green Hydrogen Mission outlined consumption targets for various industries and introduced the SIGHT program to encourage the manufacturing of electrolysers and the production of green hydrogen in India. This significant investment decision by AM Green reflects a positive step towards accelerating green energy production and fostering a sustainable future in the region.
