Key Ideas
- NTPC's integrated Green Hydrogen Hub at Pudimadaka aims to transform Andhra Pradesh's power sector and contribute to India's energy evolution.
- The project involves setting up a global hub for green hydrogen production, green ammonia, and green methanol to meet export demands in the South Asian market.
- The estimated cost of the project is Rs 1.10 lakh crore, with individual phases costing Rs 55,000 crore each, including manufacturing facilities for various new energy technologies.
- The project is expected to be completed by 2030, aligning with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's vision to make Andhra Pradesh an energy hub and achieve energy transition goals.
In Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, the NTPC Simhadri Super Thermal Power Station is spearheading an ambitious project to establish an integrated Green Hydrogen Hub at Pudimadaka. This initiative aims to revolutionize the power sector landscape of the state and significantly contribute to India's energy evolution. The project, undertaken by NTPC Green Energy Limited in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, seeks to create a global hub for green hydrogen production to cater to the South Asian market's export requirements. The hub, covering 1,200 acres and divided into industrial and hydrogen areas, is poised to house solar roof tops, industrial spaces, and facilities for green hydrogen production through renewable energy sources.
Despite facing initial setbacks, the project is expected to gain momentum under the new government's focus on power sector reforms 3.0. With an estimated cost of Rs 1.10 lakh crore, the Green Hydrogen Hub project plans to produce green hydrogen, green ammonia, green methanol, and other components essential for a sustainable energy ecosystem. Manufacturing facilities for advanced energy technologies like fuel cells, batteries, and wind turbine equipment are also part of the project's scope.
The NTPC officials have outlined strict timelines for the project completion by 2030, in line with the goal to position Andhra Pradesh as a leading energy hub. NGEL, a subsidiary of NTPC, is committed to driving green business initiatives and providing affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy solutions to support India's energy transition objectives through innovation and technology.
