Ashoka Buildcon, a construction engineering company, has announced plans to invest Rs 9,000 crore in establishing a green hydrogen plant in Bihar. The COO-Renewable Energy, Mayank Sharma, disclosed this information during the Bihar Business Connect 2024 event. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the state government to materialize this investment. Ashoka Buildcon, based in Maharashtra, is involved in highway construction, power distribution, and solar projects. The company intends to initiate a 1,250 MW solar project and harness the clean electricity generated to produce green hydrogen through water electrolysis. The first phase of the plant will be located in Begusarai, Bihar. Green hydrogen is highlighted as an extremely clean and sustainable energy source, emitting only water when utilized. The project is expected to be executed in phases, with the initial phase set to commence operations within 1.5-2 years post receiving all necessary approvals. Subsequent phases will follow the initial implementation. As of March 31, 2024, Ashoka Buildcon had an order book worth Rs 11,697 crore, with a significant portion allocated to roads, railway projects, and power transmission and distribution. Noteworthy projects secured by the company include a contract from CIDCO for constructing a link road to Navi Mumbai International Airport and the successful completion of a 150 MW solar power plant for NTPC in Rajasthan. This strategic move indicates Ashoka Buildcon's commitment to sustainable practices and a transition towards green energy initiatives.
