Belgium and Oman have formalized an agreement to bolster collaboration in green hydrogen, aiming to advance the hydrogen economy. The Memorandum of Understanding, signed between Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom) and the Belgian Hydrogen Council (BHC), underscores joint efforts in policy alignment, knowledge exchange, and technological advancements across hydrogen production, infrastructure, transportation, and usage. The partnership also looks to extend cooperation with other European nations by addressing legislative barriers and exploring research opportunities. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Oman’s Minister of Energy and Minerals, highlighted the significance of the MOU in enhancing the partnership, leveraging Oman's green hydrogen production potential and Belgium's industrial role. The collaboration seeks to accelerate the global transition to clean energy by fostering innovation and establishing essential infrastructure for connecting hydrogen producers and markets worldwide. Additionally, the International Energy Agency's report indicates that Oman, the UAE, and Morocco are on track to exceed their hydrogen production targets by 2030, with Saudi Arabia and other countries in the region contributing significantly to new capacity. The agreement signifies a positive step towards sustainable energy development and global hydrogen market integration.
