In New Delhi, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is set to establish an equal joint venture with Sembcorp for green hydrogen production and various renewable energy projects, not only in India but also globally. Sembcorp's wholly-owned subsidiary, Green Hydrogen India Pvt Ltd, will spearhead this joint venture. The collaboration intends to capitalize on Sembcorp's expertise in renewables and BPCL's knowledge in the petroleum sector and infrastructure. Apart from green hydrogen production, the joint venture will explore opportunities in green ammonia production, bunkering, emissions reduction for port operations, and other emerging green fuel technologies. BPCL's chairman, G Krishnakumar, highlighted that this joint venture will actively support India's climate objectives and BPCL's ambitious 2040 net-zero target, which includes a substantial 10 GW renewable energy portfolio. Sembcorp's CEO (West), Vipul Tuli, emphasized their commitment to identifying opportunities to decarbonize challenging sectors and provide scalable, eco-friendly solutions for a sustainable future. Sembcorp is particularly focused on utilizing green hydrogen and ammonia as crucial decarbonization pathways. With an existing 6 GW renewable assets base in India, Sembcorp is strategically positioned to facilitate extensive, cost-effective green hydrogen production.
