The decision was made during a special meeting on February 20, 2025, where council members visited the proposed sites in Bryncethin and Brynmenyn before convening at the civic offices.
The Committee also granted HyBont's Hazardous Substances Consent application after the Health and Safety Executive concluded that the risks from the proposed operation were minimal. The project includes a hydrogen production plant, electrolysers, storage, and a refuelling station at Brynmenyn, complemented by a solar farm in Bryncethin to provide renewable energy.
