Chart Industries has secured a contract to supply hydrogen compression solutions to support Repsol's ambitious €657m expansion project at its Sines industrial complex in Portugal. This project aims to enhance the facility’s capabilities with sustainable technologies, including solar-powered green electrolytic hydrogen. The US-based manufacturer will deliver two diaphragm compressors to facilitate contamination-free high-pressure hydrogen delivery at the upgraded plant. Jill Evanko, CEO of Chart Industries, expressed pride in supporting Repsol's transformative initiative, highlighting their commitment to sustainable and efficient energy solutions. The expansion project at Repsol’s Sines complex will involve the construction of a linear polyethylene (LPE) plant and a polypropylene (PP) plant, each designed for a capacity of 300,000 tonnes per year. These plants will feature cutting-edge technologies to ensure maximum energy efficiency and recyclability of the materials produced. The output from these plants will be 100% recyclable, aligning with Repsol's focus on sustainability. The new materials will cater to specialized applications in industries undergoing an energy transition, such as pharmaceuticals, automotive, and food. The completion of these facilities by 2025 is expected to position the Sines Industrial Complex as a leader in Europe, further solidifying Portugal's industrial footprint in the region.
