A US$60mn green hydrogen shared logistics infrastructure project planned for Chile’s Magallanes region has been granted environmental approval, paving the way for industry growth in the area. Led by Enap, the Laredo terminal project aims to support large-scale green ammonia and e-fuel projects in a region blessed with world-class wind resources. The project involves renting a logistics vessel due to water-depth restrictions at Laredo, enabling cargo ships to moor and transfer goods to shore. Enap, along with developer partners, is progressing towards operational readiness by 2026-27. Additionally, Enap is collaborating with Total Eren, HIF Chile, and HNH Energy on a larger logistics project at the Gregorio terminal. The Chilean government, supported by international financing entities, is working to streamline permitting processes to boost the hydrogen economy. Walmart has introduced Chile’s first hydrogen fuel-cell heavy goods truck, showcasing the country's commitment to green technologies. The country is also advancing in various hydrogen applications, such as sustainable fertilizer and synthetic LPG projects, to foster decarbonization and economic development.
