The country's energy authorities are focused on evaluating numerous green hydrogen projects and advancing key infrastructure installations. Recent developments include the submission of an US$11bn green ammonia project for environmental evaluation, showcasing increasing private sector confidence in Chile's investment environment. The shift in Chile's energy matrix is significant, with plans to increase electricity's share to 42% by 2050, while reducing the roles of fossil fuels and biomass. Green hydrogen is poised to play a crucial role, representing 16% in this envisioned energy mix. To address challenges in infrastructure, efforts are underway to repurpose existing facilities like the Laredo port into a green hydrogen production and sale hub. Enap, in collaboration with other companies, is leading this transformation. Furthermore, pilot projects for green hydrogen-powered transport are being planned, including the production of a locally manufactured green hydrogen bus.
