The Cochin Port Authority in India is taking significant steps towards the development of green hydrogen pilot projects. B. Kasiviswanathan, the Chairman of the Cochin Port Authority, announced plans to invite proposals for executing a green hydrogen pilot project, leveraging the port's existing capabilities in handling liquid cargo like ammonia. The port aims to kickstart production within a year and build bunkering facilities for green hydrogen and its derivatives. The 'Harit Sagar' initiative, focusing on achieving zero carbon emissions in ports by 2035, will see the establishment of 'Green Ammonia' bunkers and refueling facilities, with Cochin Port poised to serve as a leading example for other ports in the green hydrogen transition. Additionally, the VO Chidambaranar Port Authority in Tuticorin is also making strides in green hydrogen projects, with plans to commission a 60 KW electrolyser. The Government of Kerala is actively involved in promoting green hydrogen hubs, recognizing the importance of affordable and reliable renewable power for the success of such projects. The workshop held at Cochin Port, attended by various industry partners, marks the initiation of the Green Hydrogen Pilot Planning, with a focus on expeditious implementation and support from the Indian Ports Association and Cochin Port Authority.
