CWP Global and the Corner Brook Port Corporation have announced plans to establish a green hydrogen hub in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. This collaboration, known as Project Gwinya, will leverage 5GW of wind energy to produce green hydrogen and green iron at the Port of Corner Brook. The hub will feature a hot briquetted iron plant, aiming to bring significant economic benefits to the province through local economic activity and job creation. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlines CBPC's role in facilitating the export of locally produced hot briquetted iron to steelmakers in Canada and other regions, using the abundant wind energy resources of Newfoundland and Labrador. CWP Global and CBPC plan to move forward with a formal project registration, environmental assessment, and feasibility study to analyze the proposed hub's infrastructure, logistics, and economic implications. While no final investment decision or timeline has been disclosed yet, the companies are dedicated to engaging with local communities, First Nations, and various stakeholders to ensure the project aligns with regional development objectives. Both parties emphasize the importance of environmental stewardship and economic prosperity. Moreover, CWP Global's subsidiary, AMAN Green Energy, has recently agreed to export green iron from their 30GW AMAN project in Mauritania to the European steel industry from 2030. The joint efforts of CWP Global and CBPC reflect a positive step towards advancing green hydrogen production and sustainable economic development in Canada.
