EcoLog Signs Agreements for Green Hydrogen and CO2 Transport in Europe
Key Ideas
- EcoLog, in partnership with Tata Steel, is set to transport green hydrogen and liquefied CO2 between Norway and the Netherlands to support Tata Steel's Green Steel initiative.
- The agreements aim to establish a hydrogen/CO2 export corridor from the Netherlands to Norway, involving key players like Horisont Energi and the Port of Amsterdam.
- EcoLog is also collaborating on the creation of '7CO2,' a carbon dioxide capture and transport hub in the UK, with liquefied CO2 deliveries expected to begin in 2030.
- To facilitate these projects, EcoLog is developing a network of vessels and infrastructure, including specialized ships designed in partnership with the ABS classification society.
EcoLog, a company owned by Peter Livanos, has signed two significant agreements with Tata Steel in the Netherlands for the transportation of green hydrogen and liquefied carbon dioxide between Norway and the Netherlands. This initiative supports Tata Steel's Green Steel project, focusing on CO2 capture and hydrogen utilization. The hydrogen, produced using hydroelectric power in Norway by Gen2 Energy, will be liquefied and transported in vessels to the Port of Amsterdam for regasification and onward delivery to Tata Steel. Additionally, a carbon dioxide export corridor from the Netherlands to Norway is being established through a cooperative agreement involving Tata Steel, EcoLog, Horisont Energi, the Port of Amsterdam, OCAP, and banks DNB and ABN Amro. The captured CO2 will be shipped to Norway for permanent storage. EcoLog is also working on the '7CO2' project in the UK, collaborating with regional emitters, the Port of Bristol, and the Acorn Project for carbon dioxide capture and transport. The company plans to introduce liquefied CO2 deliveries by 2030 and is designing specialized vessels with the ABS classification society to support these transportation efforts.
