Egypt and France have signed a collaboration agreement to develop an integrated plant for the production of green hydrogen and its derivatives, such as green ammonia, near the Ras Shukeir area. The agreement, signed on the sidelines of French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Egypt, aims to strengthen the strategic cooperation between the two countries. The project, led by the Red Sea Ports Authority and the New and Renewable Energy Authority in partnership with the Green Fuel Alliance, plans to produce one million tons of green ammonia annually in three phases, beginning in 2029. The first phase, requiring €2 billion in investments from the EDF Renewables and Zero Waste alliance, aims to produce 300,000 tons of green ammonia yearly. The total investment for all three phases is expected to reach €7 billion. The agreement underscores the commitment of both countries to enhancing mutual interests and prosperity, highlighting strong political ties. This initiative aligns with Egypt's objective of promoting the localization of the green hydrogen industry and solidifying its position as a regional and global energy and green fuel hub.
