  • French company EDF Renewables and Egyptian-Emirati company Zero Waste will finance the first phase, producing 300,000 tons of green ammonia.
  • The project includes infrastructure development such as areas for renewable energy generation, a desalination unit, and a shipping dock to enhance Egypt's position in the green economy.
The Arab Republic of Egypt and the French Republic have entered a partnership to establish an integrated plant in Cairo for the production of green hydrogen and its derivatives, including green ammonia. The agreement, with a total investment of 7 billion euros, aims to support Egypt's clean fuel objectives by producing one million tons of green ammonia annually from 2029 onwards. The project will be executed in three phases, with French company EDF Renewables and Egyptian-Emirati company Zero Waste providing direct investments of 2 billion euros for the initial phase, which will produce 300,000 tons of green ammonia per year. The project's total investment will reach 7 billion euros to achieve the targeted output, fully financed by the project company. The venture includes the allocation of 368 km² for project development in Ras Shoukair, incorporating areas for solar and wind energy generation. Additionally, a 1.2 million m² space is designated for constructing the plant, alongside an electricity transmission route. Infrastructure plans encompass a seawater desalination unit to ensure water supply, as well as the construction of a shipping dock to bolster Egypt's standing as a center for clean energy. The initiative underscores Egypt's commitment to attracting green investments and solidifying its role in the regional clean energy landscape.
