Egypt is moving towards establishing an international green hydrogen centre through a collaboration between Nile University and the Green Hydrogen Organization (GH2). This agreement, witnessed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour, aims to bolster Egypt's role in the renewable energy and green hydrogen sector. The centre will focus on building capacity, offering technical assistance to Egypt and other African nations, and speeding up financing for relevant projects. By doing so, Egypt aims to position itself as a prominent hub for green hydrogen production, attracting foreign direct investments in the process. The agreement includes accelerating project financing, engaging with multilateral development banks, and setting up forums to establish a financial advisory group. Additionally, it aims to ensure compliance with international standards, develop green hydrogen manufacturing standards in Egypt, and align local standards with global benchmarks. Market access strategies, regional cooperation through the African Green Hydrogen Alliance (AGHA), and collaboration with major export markets are also part of the plan. The initiative will also focus on developing training programs to build partnerships with local industries, generate employment opportunities, and enhance technical expertise in the green hydrogen domain. Minister Ashour emphasized that the centre signifies Egypt's dedication to the green hydrogen economy, promoting innovation, collaboration, and growth in this crucial sector, ultimately leading to a more sustainable future for Egypt and the wider region.
