Tanzanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Doto Biteko, highlighted the importance of harnessing the potential of green hydrogen to power Africa's future and lead the global energy transition. Speaking at the Global African Hydrogen Summit in Windhoek, Biteko emphasized the necessity for African countries to increase energy access, transition to green energy, and drive sustainable development. He pointed out the low electrification rates in countries like Tanzania, stressing the need to boost generation capacity using available resources such as hydro, natural gas, solar, small hydro, wind, and geothermal energy. Biteko identified Africa's abundant natural resources, youthful population, and emerging markets as strategic advantages for the continent to become a leader in the green energy revolution. However, he also acknowledged the challenges in investing in green hydrogen, including financial costs, infrastructure development, market creation, and demand stimulation. Biteko urged African governments to prioritize cleaner fuel and emphasized the importance of green hydrogen in building a low-carbon economy. He highlighted the rapidly changing global energy landscape and the necessity for Africa to embrace green hydrogen to ensure a sustainable and resilient future for the continent.
