European Energy Launches Green Hydrogen Plant in Måde
Key Ideas
  • European Energy has inaugurated its first green hydrogen facility in Måde near Esbjerg, Denmark.
  • The plant, powered by renewable energy, will have a total capacity of 12MW and produce 1,500 metric tonnes of hydrogen annually.
  • The company plans to expand the facility with two more electrolyzers, aiming to optimize energy usage and maximize output efficiency.
  • The green hydrogen will be supplied to Port Esbjerg and an industrial gases company, with excess heat utilized by the local heating utility.
European Energy, a Danish renewables developer, has successfully launched its maiden green hydrogen facility in Måde, near Esbjerg. The plant, equipped with the first electrolyzer from Danish company Stiesdal, is now operational after completing construction and commissioning phases. Plans are underway to install two additional electrolyzers, with the ultimate goal of achieving a total capacity of 12MW and an annual hydrogen production of 1,500 metric tonnes. Notably, the hydrogen produced will cater to Port Esbjerg and an industrial gases company. Moreover, surplus heat generated during the production process will be harnessed by DIN Forsyning, the local heating utility in Esbjerg municipality. Energy trading company Centrica will play a crucial role in balancing and optimizing the facility's operations to ensure cost-effectiveness and maximize efficiency. European Energy's EVP emphasized the significance of this project in driving industry decarbonization by leveraging the learnings for future plants. Besides, the company is also advancing with its Kassø green methanol facility, set to produce e-methanol for the shipping sector, further contributing to sustainable practices and green technology adoption.
