Fortescue Ltd, an Australian metal mining company, and OCP Group, a Moroccan fertilizer producer, have received approval from the Kingdom’s Competition Council to establish a joint venture in Morocco. The joint venture will focus on creating a large-scale renewable energy, green hydrogen, and ammonia production hub. The partnership was equally owned and approved by the Moroccan regulator in a meeting held on July 24. The collaboration between OCP and Fortescue aims to supply green hydrogen, ammonia, and fertilizers to Morocco, Europe, and international markets, with an emphasis on sustainable practices. The plan includes establishing a significant integrated green ammonia and fertilizer production capacity that involves renewable energy generation, electrolysis, ammonification, and green manufacturing capabilities. Additionally, the partners plan to set up an R&D and Technology Hub near Marrakech in collaboration with Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). This hub will support research in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and mineral processing. The joint venture also intends to collaborate through their corporate venture capital funds to drive investment in key technological advancements. OCP and Fortescue aim to provide green hydrogen and ammonia for use in green energy sources and the production of carbon-neutral and customized fertilizers. The goal is to make these sustainable fertilizers accessible and affordable for farmers globally, contributing to promoting environmental sustainability.
