GAIL's Green Hydrogen Initiative: Pilot Plant in MP for National Mission
Key Ideas
- GAIL (India) Limited inaugurated its first Green Hydrogen Plant at GAIL Vijaipur in Madhya Pradesh, supporting the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
- The plant has a capacity of producing 4.3 TPD of Hydrogen using 10MW PEM Electrolyser units, ensuring high purity at 99.999% and a pressure of 30 Kg/cm2.
- Initially, the produced hydrogen will be used as a fuel alongside Natural Gas for internal processes and later be dispensed to retail customers in the vicinity.
- To support the electrolyser's power needs, GAIL is constructing around 20 MW Solar power plants at Vijaipur, emphasizing sustainable energy practices.
GAIL (India) Limited has taken a significant leap towards sustainable energy by establishing its pilot Green Hydrogen Plant in Vijaipur, Madhya Pradesh. In alignment with the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the inauguration of this plant witnessed key officials including the Secretary of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas and GAIL's top management. The plant boasts a production capacity of 4.3 TPD of Hydrogen achieved through 10MW PEM Electrolyser units. This technology enables the electrolysis of water using renewable power, ensuring high purity hydrogen at 99.999% with a pressure of 30 Kg/cm2.
The initial application of the hydrogen produced will be for internal use at the Vijaipur plant, where it will be utilized as a fuel alongside Natural Gas. However, there are plans to extend its use to retail customers in surrounding areas, facilitated by high pressure cascades for transportation. Additionally, to meet the green power requirements for the Electrolyser, GAIL is simultaneously working on setting up 20 MW Solar power plants at Vijaipur, encompassing both Ground Mounted and Floating installations. This initiative signifies GAIL's commitment to sustainable practices and signifies a positive step towards the adoption of alternative energy sources in India's energy landscape.
