The German state of Baden-Württemberg has announced a new funding programme of €100m to support local hydrogen production projects. The subsidy initiative, known as the Funding for Electrolysers (ELY) programme, will provide financial support to electrolyser-based projects in the state, with a maximum funding amount of €10m per project. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can secure up to €8.25m per project. The funding will cover a significant portion of the eligible investment costs, with additional support for small businesses and medium-sized organizations. The Energy Minister of Baden-Württemberg, Thekla Walker, highlighted the importance of investing in local generation capacities to meet the rising demand for renewable hydrogen. The initiative aims to complement the German national core network and ensure the timely development of local infrastructures. In parallel, German Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck approved the construction of a 9,040km hydrogen core network, signaling the country's commitment to hydrogen production and distribution. The network is designed to connect import terminals to industrial hubs across the country, enhancing the feed-in and feed-out capacities for hydrogen. These initiatives reflect Germany's strategic approach towards energy transition and its efforts to establish a robust hydrogen economy.
