Green Hydrogen Alliance at Stanlow Manufacturing Complex
Key Ideas
  • SSE and EET Hydrogen are collaborating on the Gowy Green Hydrogen project in the UK to deliver hydrogen to industrial offtakers for decarbonization, supporting job growth.
  • The project, expected to be operational by 2028, is part of efforts to scale up green hydrogen production essential for decarbonizing hard-to-abate industries.
  • EET Hydrogen is also developing low-carbon hydrogen plants HPP1 and HPP2 at the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex, further contributing to decarbonization in the region.
  • The HyNet industrial decarbonization cluster, with hydrogen production, supply, and carbon capture technology, aims to reduce the North West's carbon emissions significantly.
Energy companies SSE and EET Hydrogen have joined forces to work on the Gowy Green Hydrogen project at the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, UK. This project aims to provide hydrogen to industrial offtakers in the region to help them decarbonize their operations, ultimately supporting job creation. The 40 MWe facility is expected to be operational by 2028, with feasibility studies already completed. Additionally, EET Hydrogen is working on the HPP1 and HPP2 low-carbon hydrogen plants at the same complex, contributing to the nation's efforts in transitioning towards clean energy sources. These plants are set to significantly reduce carbon emissions in the North West by enabling the switch from fossil fuels to low-carbon energy for industrial and power generation customers. The collaboration between SSE and EET Hydrogen underscores the importance of scaling up green hydrogen production to address the challenges of decarbonizing hard-to-abate industries. The HyNet industrial decarbonization cluster, which includes the hydrogen production facilities and carbon capture technology, is a crucial step in achieving sustainable energy practices in the region.
