The Deendayal Port Authority has granted 3400 acres of land near Gujarat's Kandla port to four companies – Larsen & Toubro Green Energy Tech Ltd, Welspun New Energy Ltd, AM Green Hydrogen Pvt Ltd, and Reliance Green Hydrogen and Green Chemicals Ltd – to establish green hydrogen production facilities. These companies aim to collectively produce 5.5 million tonnes of green ammonia annually by 2030–31. Kandla port, along with Tuticorin and Paradip, has been designated as a green hydrogen hub. The port is also constructing a 300 MLD desalination facility to meet water needs for the green hydrogen units. Additionally, an MoU was signed between DPA and NTPC for a hydrogen plant to power hydrogen buses, with 11 buses expected to be operational by August 2025.
