Hygenco Green Energies in India has entered into a partnership with Switzerland's Ameropa to potentially supply green ammonia from a forthcoming project at the Gopalpur port in Odisha. The collaboration aims to boost green ammonia exports from India, contributing to the global shift towards renewable energy and sustainable agriculture. The project's first phase, with a production capacity of 600 tpd, is scheduled to be operational by 2027, with plans to double the capacity by early 2028 and reach full production capacity of 1.1 mtpa by 2030. Hygenco, known for being the sole Indian company with a functioning commercial green hydrogen plant, is also investing $2.5 billion in green hydrogen and green ammonia projects over the next three years, including the development of multiple green hydrogen plants in the country. The partnership between Hygenco and Ameropa intends to export green ammonia to European and Asian markets, with a focus on establishing a reliable supply chain and capturing a significant share of the global low-carbon ammonia markets. Ameropa views green ammonia as crucial for producing environmentally friendly fertilizers, reducing indirect emissions, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices worldwide. In other developments, Rolls-Royce is working on technology for a hydrogen combustion engine for CHP systems, while Canada has introduced Clean Economy Investment Tax Credits, including support for hydrogen production projects aimed at producing clean hydrogen and ammonia. These initiatives highlight the growing importance and investment in sustainable energy solutions and technologies.
