Spanish renewable power company Iberdrola and British multinational oil and gas company BP have announced a collaboration to establish a 25-megawatt green hydrogen plant in Castellon, a city on Spain's eastern coast. This project, bolstered by a 15-million-euro subsidy from the EU, is specifically designed to assist BP in reducing the carbon footprint of its oil refinery situated in Castellon. The financial burden of constructing the green hydrogen plant will be divided equally between BP and Iberdrola, although the exact cost has not been disclosed. Green hydrogen production involves utilizing electricity generated from renewable sources like wind and solar to extract hydrogen from water through a process called electrolysis. This initiative forms a crucial part of Europe's broader strategy to combat carbon emissions and enhance energy security by promoting sustainable energy solutions.
