The Government of India has raised the allocation for the fertiliser sector as part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission's SIGHT Programme. The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy is driving this mission with a target to achieve a production capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum of Green Hydrogen by 2030. In response to the increased demand from the fertiliser industry, the capacity under the SIGHT Programme has been increased from 5.5 to 7.5 lakh tonnes per annum. The Solar Energy Corporation of India has issued a Request for Selection to choose Green Ammonia Producers through competitive bidding. The mission, launched in 2023, with an outlay of ₹19,744 crore, aims to make India self-reliant in clean energy and reduce carbon emissions, fostering a transition to cleaner energy sources and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
