Indian Army's Green Initiative: Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus Collaboration
Key Ideas
  • Indian Army collaborates with Indian Oil Corporation Limited to introduce green and sustainable transport solutions.
  • A hydrogen fuel cell bus with a capacity of 37 passengers and a mileage of 250-300 km on a full tank of hydrogen is received.
  • MoU emphasizes commitment to innovation and sustainable transport solutions, highlighting the efficiency of hydrogen fuel cell technology.
  • Pilot project for green hydrogen-based microgrid power plants along the northern borders aims to provide clean electricity to troops in extreme conditions.
The Indian Army has partnered with the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to introduce green and sustainable transport solutions. Through a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the Army and IOCL aim to innovate and promote sustainable transportation. A hydrogen fuel cell bus, boasting a seating capacity of 37 passengers and an impressive mileage of 250-300 km on a full 30 kg tank of hydrogen fuel, was received during the collaboration event. Notably, the hydrogen fuel cell technology is lauded for its clean and efficient process of converting hydrogen gas into electricity, leaving water vapor as the sole by-product and ensuring zero emissions. The Indian Army's previous MoU with the National Thermal Power Corporation Renewable Energy Ltd paved the way for installing green hydrogen-based microgrid power plants along the northern borders. A pilot project at Chushul is underway to provide 24x7 clean electricity to troops in challenging terrains. The initiative focuses on fostering innovation and advancing sustainable transport solutions for the future. The partnership between the Indian Army and IOCL signifies a significant step towards cleaner and greener transport solutions, illustrating a commitment to environmental responsibility and technological progress.
