India's Ambitious Green Hydrogen Hub in Visakhapatnam
Key Ideas
- Prime Minister Modi to inaugurate India's largest Green Hydrogen Hub in Pudimadaka near Visakhapatnam led by NTPC Green Energy Limited.
- The hub spread over 1,600 acres will produce 1,500 tonnes of green hydrogen daily along with other green energy products, positioning India as a leader in green energy production.
- With an investment of ₹1.85 lakh crore, the facility aims to make India a significant exporter of green energy products and a hub for green energy in Andhra Pradesh.
- Equipped with key infrastructure like a desalination plant and a GIS substation, the hub is part of India’s goal to produce 5 million metric tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation stone for India's largest Green Hydrogen Hub in Pudimadaka near Visakhapatnam on November 29. Led by NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), the project is a cornerstone of India's Green Hydrogen Mission launched in 2021. The hub, spanning 1,600 acres, is expected to revolutionize Andhra Pradesh into a significant green energy hub. It will have the capacity to produce 1,500 tonnes of green hydrogen daily, in addition to 4,500 tonnes of green ammonia, 1,500 tonnes of green methanol, and 1,500 tonnes of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) or Green Urea each day. This massive output will establish India as a key exporter of green energy products. The project, with an estimated investment of ₹1.85 lakh crore, will also feature an 80 million litre-per-day desalination plant, a GIS substation, and robust port logistics to ensure sustainable and efficient operations. This initiative aligns with India's target of producing 5 million metric tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030, marking a significant step towards the country's green energy goals.
