Tata Motors in India has initiated the first trials of hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks, aligning with the country's ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. The trial, supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, aims to assess the practicality of using hydrogen trucks for long-distance cargo transportation over a period of up to 24 months. These trials involve deploying 16 advanced hydrogen-powered vehicles equipped with cutting-edge Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines (H2-ICE) and Fuel Cell (H2-FCEV) technologies on major freight routes across cities like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi-NCR, and more.
The Union Ministers of Road Transport & Highways and New and Renewable Energy praised the initiative, emphasizing hydrogen's role in propelling India towards sustainable and low-carbon transportation solutions. Tata Motors' Executive Director highlighted the company's dedication to green mobility and innovation, expressing gratitude to the government for its support in this endeavor.
