The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry has recommended to India's finance ministry to adopt green budgeting, where all government departments would prepare environmental budget statements emphasizing their 'green' initiatives. The upcoming Budget is expected to provide impetus to green energy in alignment with the government's targets of adding 500 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030 and reducing households' electricity bills to zero. The industry anticipates increased allocations, especially towards solar and wind segments, green hydrogen, and battery storage infrastructure. EverSource Capital predicts a reduction in import duty on solar cells to zero with an obligation for sectoral companies to use domestic cells in a certain percentage ratio in their projects. In Budget 2023, Rs 19,700 crore was allocated to the Green Hydrogen Mission and Rs 35,000 crore for energy transition and net-zero targets by 2070. The industry expects further financial support in Budget 2024 to triple green energy capacity. The government's focus on rooftop solar schemes, offshore wind projects, and round-the-clock renewable energy is set to continue. Stakeholders advocate for policy incentives to enhance energy storage solutions, support domestic manufacturing of capital items, and extend waivers for interstate transmission charges. The emphasis on innovation and indigenous manufacturing is crucial in achieving the ambitious renewable energy targets set by the government.
