India's Initiative to Boost Green Ammonia Production for National Green Hydrogen Mission
Key Ideas
  • Solar Energy Corporation of India issues RfS for selection of Green Ammonia Producers under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, showcasing a step towards demand creation of Green Hydrogen in India.
  • Competitive bidding initiated for 5.39 lakh MT/annum of Green Ammonia production capacity, to be supplied to fertilizer companies, contributing to the green energy sector.
  • The National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to achieve self-reliance in clean energy, decarbonize the economy, reduce fossil fuel imports, and position India as a leader in Green Hydrogen technology and market.
  • The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy's SIGHT Programme and SECI's role in implementing the Scheme Guidelines highlight the government's commitment to promoting sustainable energy practices.
The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has issued a Request for Selection (RfS) under the National Green Hydrogen Mission to select Green Ammonia Producers in India. This initiative is part of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme led by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE). The RfS aims to facilitate the production and supply of 5.39 lakh Metric Tonnes (MT) per annum of Green Ammonia through competitive bidding. The produced Green Ammonia will be supplied to fertilizer companies, promoting the use of sustainable energy sources in the fertilizer industry. The National Green Hydrogen Mission, initiated with an outlay of Rs. 19,744 crores up to FY 2029-30, is pivotal in India's journey towards self-reliance in clean energy. By promoting Green Hydrogen and its derivatives, the mission aims to drive decarbonization, decrease reliance on fossil fuel imports, and establish India as a leader in Green Hydrogen technology and market. The SIGHT Programme, specifically Component II focusing on Incentive for Procurement of Green Ammonia Production, demonstrates the government's commitment to accelerating the transition to sustainable energy practices. SECI's appointment as the implementing agency for the Scheme Guidelines further underscores the strategic importance of this initiative in driving the green energy agenda forward.
