India's National Green Hydrogen Mission Funding Scheme Launched in New Delhi
Key Ideas
  • The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy in India has announced a new funding scheme under the National Green Hydrogen Mission with a budget of Rs 200 crore until 2025-26.
  • The scheme aims to develop quality testing facilities for Green Hydrogen (GH2) production to ensure sustainability and safety, supporting the clean energy transition.
  • The National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) will oversee the implementation of the scheme, part of India's larger goal to achieve self-reliance in clean energy by 2029-30.
  • This initiative is expected to inspire global efforts towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future, benefiting both India's energy sector and the environment.
The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) in India has introduced a new scheme to fund testing facilities, infrastructure, and institutional support under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. This scheme, with a budget of Rs 200 crore, will be operational until the financial year 2025-26. The objective is to establish quality and performance testing facilities to ensure the sustainability and safety of Green Hydrogen (GH2) production and trade. The scheme will address gaps in existing testing facilities for components, technologies, and processes related to Green Hydrogen and its derivatives. It will also facilitate the creation of new testing facilities and the enhancement of current ones to ensure safe operations. The National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) will play a crucial role as the Scheme Implementation Agency (SIA) for this initiative. The National Green Hydrogen Mission, initiated in January 2023 with a total outlay of Rs 19,744 crore until the financial year 2029-30, aligns with India's objective to achieve self-reliance in clean energy. By promoting clean energy sources like Green Hydrogen, the mission aims to contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable energy ecosystem within the country. This endeavor not only supports India's self-reliance goals but also serves as a model for the global Clean Energy Transition. The scheme is anticipated to inspire other nations towards adopting cleaner energy practices and moving towards a greener future for the benefit of both the environment and energy security.
