The Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (Anert) in Kerala has secured approval for its proposal to pilot a green hydrogen mobility project, making it the state's inaugural endeavor into the realm of hydrogen-driven transportation. The proposal, comprising two fuel cell-based and two hydrogen internal combustion engine-based trucks alongside two hydrogen refueling units, was given the green light by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. Anert, serving as the nodal agency for green hydrogen initiatives in Kerala, was selected as one of the seven proposals chosen from a pool of 13 by ARAI. The project is set to receive a significant viability gap funding of ₹35 crore, covering 90% of the total costs. Collaborating with Ashok Leyland for hydrogen trucks, Bharat Petroleum and Greenstat for hydrogen refueling plants, and the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation for operational support, Anert is gearing up to materialize the green hydrogen mobility project. This initiative marks a positive step towards embracing sustainable transportation solutions and reducing carbon emissions in the state.
